Full Moon Morning Tea Cookies

Rise & Shine, the Sweet Way

There’s something special about those early morning hours—when the light is soft, the world is quiet, and your tea kettle sings just for you. At Full Moon Tea Company, we believe in honoring morning rituals that feel intentional and deeply delicious. So why not extend that moment with a treat that’s baked with your favorite blend?

These buttery, citrus-kissed Full Moon Morning Tea Cookies bring together the boldness of our signature black tea with the soft, crumbly goodness of shortbread. With notes of malt, orange zest, and just the right hint of magic, they’re the perfect companion to your morning cuppa. Whether you’re journaling under sunrise skies or fueling up for a busy day, these cookies offer a grounded, flavorful way to start anew.

 Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Full Moon Morning tea, finely ground
(grind loose leaf in a spice grinder or use a mortar & pestle for a tea dust texture)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Zest of 1 orange (optional but delightful)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

1. Prep the Tea: Finely grind your Full Moon Morning tea leaves until they resemble a powder. This helps the tea infuse evenly into the cookie dough.

2. Make the Dough: In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in the vanilla and orange zest. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, ground tea, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.

3. Chill the Dough: Roll the dough into a log (for slice-and-bake) or press it into a disc (for rolling and cutting). Wrap in parchment or plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.

4. Bake the Cookies: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  • For slice-and-bake: Slice 1/4-inch thick rounds.

  • For cut-outs: Roll dough to 1/4-inch thick and cut shapes.
Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake 10–12 minutes, until edges are just golden.

5. Cool & Enjoy: Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Serve with—you guessed it—a cup of Full Moon Morning tea.

6. Optional Glaze: Whisk 1/2 cup powdered sugar with 1–2 tablespoons fresh orange juice. Drizzle over cooled cookies for a little extra zing.
